"Simply the Best News Editor for Wildcat! BBS Systems"
By
Darius Liktorius
TEC! BBS (305) 938-4054 - Fido 1:369/71
A Public Domain Utility
What KatNews! does is pretty self-explanitory, except that KatNews! is
like no ordinary newsletter creating program! KatNews! has many features
like:
- Completely Configurable Color Combinations for Newsletter Output
- Append Option to allow the SysOp to "Insert" the New newsletters
in front of the old ones to make a "Logged-Newsletter"
- After creating a newsletter, you have the option to edit the
newsletter. When editing the newsletter, you have the options
to delete a line or a group of lines or to replace a line.
- You can have an external "header" file for your newsletter, like
you can possibly use one of your bulletins or logon screens!
The following are features planned for the next release:
- GIVE ME YOUR SUGGESTIONS, I'll Add them!
- I am hoping to add a full-screen editor for the newsletter.....
but that could take some time.
* INSTALLATION *
----------------
The installation procedure for KatNews! is not hard at all.... You
need to run the program CONFIG.EXE that is included with this package,
and just change the options to suit your preferences... The following
is an explanation of the different configuration options:
Change Header Color - Lets you change the FROM field color.
-------------------
Change Header Information Color - Lets you change your name's color
------------------------------- which is displayed after the FROM
field.
Change Date/Time Color - Lets you change the Date and Time
---------------------- Display color.
Change Border Color - Lets you change the color of the
------------------- border that outlines the newsletter
text.
Change Newsletter Color - Lets you change the color of the
----------------------- actual text in the information of
the newsletter.
Display Example Newsletter - Allows you to "Preview" what your
-------------------------- newsletter would look like with
the current color configuration.
Restore Default Colors - This option lets you change all the
---------------------- different colors that you have changed
back to the ones that come set
originally with the program.
Change Newsletter Style - This allows you to change how you want
----------------------- the newsletter to appear, it is made up
of 4 different types of styles: Single-
Line Bordered, Double-Line Bordered,
Single-Line Top/Bottom, and Double-Line
Top/Bottom. By changing this option you
can change the appearance of your news-
letter.
Append to Newsletter - * REGISTERED VERSION ONLY! *
-------------------- ----------------------------
Lets you have the old news of the
newsletter that has been written a
long time ago to be "Appended" or
"Added" to the end of the new
newsletter. This option if set to "NO"
will just overwrite the old news
information everytime that you save the
newsletter.
Include File - This is a great feature which allows
------------ you to add a "header" file to your
newsletter. You can add bulletins or
logon files, or whatever kind of file
you would like to have put in there!
After quiting the configuration, make sure to save the settings when it
asks you to or you will loose all the changes that you just made.
The next step in setting KatNews! up is to create a batch file to run it.
Now you might be asking yourself why would I need to use a batch file to run
it, right? Well the answer is that KatNews! should be run from a directory
off of your Wildcat! home directory or someplace else, for example:
"C:\WC30\KATNEWS" because it creates the NEWSLTR.BBS (Newsletter file) in the
same directory that it is run in, and not the display file directory. And I
am sure that you would not want to have KatNews! sitting in your display file
directory! - So here is an example of what the batch file to run KatNews!
should look like:
Echo Off
Cd \Wc30\KatNews
KatNews
Copy NEWSLTR.BBS C:\WC30\DISP (or whatever your Display-
Cd \Wc30 file directory is)
Thats it! Finished!

PROBLEMS, SUGGESTIONS, QUESTIONS, or COMMENTS!:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
KatNews! is public domain. It doesn't require a registration like some other
programs do, but in the up and coming versions like 2.00, where there will
be TONS of new features, you will NOT be able to use the new features without
registering, so the new version would almost have no effect for you! If you
want to register, please fill-out KATCALL.REG and send in $7.50 and you will
be registered.
I welcome suggestions, and will try to help (no guarantees) if there are
problems.
You can contact me at The Eclipse Central BBS! (305) 938-4054. Mention
your Wildcat! registration number in the newuser questionnaire and you
will be upgraded to Visiting Sysop within 24 hours.
You can ALSO leave me a comment on the Mustang Software Registered BBS!
Enjoy!
